KW Excavating – Responsible Excavation on Historic and Indigenous Sites
At KW Excavating, I understand that working on historic and Indigenous Archaeological sites requires not only technical skill, but also deep respect, patience, and precision. When using our excavator in these sensitive areas, we follow careful procedures designed to protect and preserve the land’s cultural heritage value.
Our process begins with thorough coordination with site archaeologists, and Indigenous monitors to ensure we follow all provincial and indigenous community protocols. Using specialized excavation techniques, I carefully strip and remove topsoil in controlled layers, allowing for the safe identification and of features and the recovery of any artifacts that may be present .
Our focus is on accuracy and respect. With years of experience excavating around gas lines and other sensitive utilities I operate my machine with a steady hand and a mindful approach — maintaining smooth, precise movements to avoid disturbing subsurface materials. We use a smooth edged tilt grading bucket and a watch-and-stop method, pausing frequently for inspection. As much as I am aware of the excavation I am extremely aware of the safety of the crew I am working with, ensuring a safe distance within the swing zone of the machine and also the excavation and spoil piles within the work area of your workers.
KW Excavating takes pride in contributing to projects that protect and honor the stories, traditions, and histories of the land. Our commitment is to perform every job with integrity, care, and the utmost respect for the communities and cultures connected to each site.
